Media Release - FABC (Australia-wide) January 1, 1997
"Visit your local member of parliament in the early New Year period and express your concern at cuts to funding" is THE 1997 RESOLUTION, FABC organisations around Australia are asking of ABC supporters.
"We are asking Australians to visit every federal parliamentarian throughout the country to put the case of the ABC. All members of parliament must vote on this issue of government cuts to ABC funding. We believe an Australia-wide campaign of visits of constituents to their representatives expressing their concern is vital in this issue", said National Committee members of FABC.
"Many MPs have not fuly appreciated the extent to which ABC services have already been cut even before the next May '97 planned cuts are due.
"We are also asking people who do visit MPs to let the FABC in their area know of this so the process can be assessed and co-ordinated.
"It will only be when all MPs - Senators and Members of the House of Representatives - are made aware of this massive groundswell of support for an adequately funded ABC that ABC funding will be assured".
