SAVE OUR ABC: THE CASE FOR MAINTAINING AUSTRALIA'S NATIONAL BROADCASTER, is published by Hyland House in association with Friends of the ABC.
It is co-edited by Morag Fraser (editor of Eureka Street) and Joseph O'Reilly (executive director of the Victorian Council for Civil Liberties and a member of the ABC National Advisory Council).
Andrew Wilkins, at Hyland House, suggested the publication of a book to canvas the current arguments concerning the fate of the ABC to the president of Friends of the ABC in Victoria, June Factor. He was convinced it could be produced in time for the grand rally and concert in Melbourne to CELEBRATE, SUPPORT & SAVE THE ABC - three weeks later, on August 12.
Doubtful but hopeful - June Factor is an author with considerable experience of the delays common in the publishing industry - June approached Morag Fraser. A committed supporter of the ABC, Morag accepted the challenge, and she and Joseph O'Reilly worked day and night to put together a collection of articles by leading figures in the arts, media, academia and politics, a valuable overview of the role and significance of the ABC in contemporary Australia.
The book is now available from friends of the ABC in every State, as well as in bookshops. All profits from the sale of the book through Friends of the ABC go to Friends, as does a percentage of the bookshop sales.
We are selling the book at the SPECIAL PRICE of $10 (including postage).
