The Budget: Sport 3: ABC almost Nil
May 2010

In contrast to the ABC which is accessed by the entire community, funding for sport increased by $325 million (of which $237 million is for elite level sport) to $1.2 billion over the next four years. Meanwhile, the ABC will receive an additional $14.5 million next financial year for its move to digital broadcasting.

And Dr Peter Pockley, founding head of science programs at the ABC, has been awarded the prestigious Australian Academy of Science medal for 2010 for his outstanding contribution to science. FABC is thrilled the Academy has recognised Dr Pockley's pioneering of specialist reporting of science in Australia which commenced when he set up the ABC Science Unit in 1964.
His medal will be presented by the Governor-General at the Academy's Annual Meeting dinner on 6 May. Click

The Crossbenchers are important for ABC Board legislation

FABC strongly supports the Rudd Government’s bill that deals with appointments to the Boards of the ABC and SBS, and has proposed some amendments it believes will enhance it. We are urging FABC members and friends to contact members of the Opposition AND Senator Fielding to join with the Government in demonstrating respect for Australia's foremost cultural institution and recognition of its importance to the community.
