Professor Alan Knight
Friends of the ABC National Spokesperson
Professor Alan Knight has been appointed as national spokesperson of Friends of the ABC
at FABC's National Conference in Melbourne on 12-13 May.
Friends of the ABC organisations across Australia are gearing up for the federal election. Prof Knight will head their election campaign to draw attention to a serious risk of the ABC being pushed down the commercial track and carrying ads.
Alan Knight is a Professor of Journalism and Media Studies at the Queensland University of Technology and an Emeritus Professor at Central Queensland University. (further information below)
Professor Alan Knight is a journalist and academic with strong experience in university governance. Presently he is Discipline Leader and Professor at the innovative Creative Industries Faculty at the Queensland University of Technology. Alan Knight is a former director of the Australian Centre for Independent Journalism.
Before becoming an academic, Alan Knight was a broadcaster and editor; working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Australian Associated Press, Nation Review and Radio Television Hong Kong.
Professor Knight has a specialist interest in Foreign Correspondence and Asian Studies, and is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Asian Studies at Hong Kong University. He is co-author of Reporting Hong Kong: the foreign press and the handover (Curzon Press: London, 1999).
Alan Knight was a founding director of 4 ZZZ FM, one of Australia's first community radio stations.
