The walkout of trusted newsreader Mary Kostakidis from SBS has brought to a head what is happening to SBS. A great and innovative public broadcaster is subverting its programming in its quest for commercial revenue. - Kostakidis-SBS lteAug07.doc

Comments of ABC Director Sue Howard have led FABC to write to the ABC (Click to view letter)to clarify the broadcaster's position on FABC being interviewed on the ABC, and on whether or not the ABC shares FABC's broad objectives of political and commercial independence for the ABC. When 'The Media Report' on ABC Radio National ran a story about the ABC permitting one of its Brisbane breakfast presenters to present a Channel Nine infotainment program, FABC's national spokesperson, Prof Alan Knight, was one of those interviewed on the matter.

The following week, Ms Howard commented on the matter at hand, agreeing it was inappropriate, but dismissing its significance. She also rebuked the presenter, on air, for having interviewed someone connected with Friends of the ABC.
