The ABC is charging the community to access the Government's apology to indigenous Australians. “There will be many in the community, particularly those in the workforce, who were unable to view the ABC's live morning broadcast of the government's apology to indigenous Australians,” said Judith Rodriguez, Friends of the ABC Vic president. “When people contact the ABC to ask if the program is to be repeated, they are told to phone ABC Program Sales. “The Government’s apology to indigenous Australians is one of the most significant occasions in our nation’s history. It is the ABC’s responsibility to broadcast such events at times that ensure all Australians can readily access them. “The ABC’s failure to broadcast a timely repeat is totally unacceptable. It looks to be a cynical exercise to profit from a momentous historical occasion, and is yet another example of how the ABC's commercial activities are increasingly undermining its responsibilities as the national broadcaster,” said Judith Rodriguez. |
